In a final act of defiance and using his longships as leverage, Olav the Stout pulled down London Bridge! Legend has it that his antics helped restore Ethelred the Unready to the English throne.

After amassing a small fortune in booty, Olav returned to Norway where he was crowned King. His reign ended when he was killed in the Battle of Stiklestad in 1030. He was just 35 years old!

Today, King Olaf II of Norway is a national hero and canonised saint. His fabled battle axe, Hel, appears prominently on Norway's Coat of Arms. Olav's story is literally one of 'sinner to saint'.

When Sigurd was booted off the throne, he set off to France and then later Belgium and North Germany, fighting fierce battles along the way. Unsurprisingly, Sigurd died in battle in 891 along with hundreds of thousands of other warriors.
